Mary Barnes adopted a cat named Marvin half a year ago, hoping that it would be a wonderful companion for her 7-year-old dog, Moose. In addition to being a fantastic companion, the cat now helps Moose overcome fear when storms, fireworks, and other loud noises make him frightened.
We were so moved by this connection that we couldn’t resist sharing it with you!
Mary Barnes’ 7-year-old dog Moose grew sensitive to loud noises such as thunderstorms and fireworks when she relocated to a new apartment in noisy downtown Detroit. She would fear and tremble, then hide in the shower since it was her “safe place.”
“Giving Moose treats and keeping her busy with games didn’t really help,” Mary told us. That’s why, half a year ago, she decided to adopt a cat from a shelter, hoping that it might help Moose feel less lonely and fearful.
Though Mary was concerned about their compatibility because Moose had never interacted with cats before, they immediately became great friends, and they now snooze and play all day.
Marvin, the new family member, proved to be a fantastic buddy.
Mary claims Marvin has the personality of a puppy, therefore they spend practically all of their time together.
Marvin was never terrified of thunder or heavy rain, but when a large storm approached, he began to worry about his older sister and refused to let her deal with the stress alone. Marvin constantly checked on Moose in the shower and offered her kisses, distracting her from the commotion outside and providing her with comfort. When the storm passed, they returned to their usual activities.
Marvin is now always on alert, looking after his sister during storms. Mary stated that she never imagined the kitten would provide Moose so much comfort whenever she needed it.
