Just last week, when the region was hit by massive floods, firefighters in Oregon had to try to save a very stubborn cat.
On Thursday, Salem Fire Department crews were dispatched to assist a resident in leaving his farm near Independence, which is located just northwest of Portland.
The rescuers saw a scared cat perched high on a pillar supporting grapes while assisting the guy in getting to safety.
Before the terrified cat leaped from the pole and into the floodwaters, a rescuer wearing water waders was seen on camera approaching the animal.
At last, the rescuer was able to seize the cat before it was carried off.
When the cat began to struggle and try to escape, he found it difficult to hold on with two hands.
The resident was waiting with a jacket to keep the cat warm until the rescuer was able to wade back to the raft.
When the unlucky cat attempted to flee once more, it nearly fell beneath the raft.
After being bundled up in the resident’s coat, the fur baby was finally let free on higher ground, around 200 yards from the location of its rescue.
As soon as it was free, the cat ran away. Due to record-breaking rainfall in certain areas of Oregon this month, authorities have been compelled to close schools in the worst affected regions and shutter roadways.
