In a remote area of town, my spouse and I discover a box of stray kittens on the road outside our house. The mewling of the six little creatures, who are without a mother, suggests that they are hungry. They have closed eyelids and are quite young.
After bringing them inside, we clean and warm them up and begin obsessively Googling the necessary steps. We can’t just drive down to the local vet since it’s the middle of the night and we’re rural—I mean, whatever monster left the box there clearly didn’t believe they would ever be found.
According to Google, we may use a plastic syringe to feed them in an emergency if we need to acquire a particular kind of milk. I’m heading thirty miles to the closest 24-hour convenience shop.
I locate the milk, but unlike what Google informed me, this location doesn’t have syringes. At the desk, I inquire.
“Oh, the pharmacy doesn’t open until nine,” said the cashier.
“So there’s nothing you can do?” I asked.
Cashier: “Not really, I mean.” It seems like you need a prescription.
All of a sudden, I see my appearance. I’m anxious to get my hands on some syringes, so I drove up in the middle of the night.
Me: “Well, Pause! They’re not my style! For the kitties, that is!
“The—kittens,” said the cashier.
I inquire about Wi-Fi availability and am granted access. I show the clerk the meowing kittens and then make a video call to my husband.
Me: “There’s nothing else I can do, but these little ones need to eat ASAP. According to Google, they require a syringe since they are too young to lap up milk on their own.
The cashier hurls a ten-pack of plastic syringes at me before I can finish speaking.
Cashier: “Leave! Oh my! Feed those babies, please!
She cried out, “GOOOO!” once more, and I didn’t need to hear it twice when I attempted to pay. We fed the kittens and spent the entire night with them. We headed to the town the following day to visit the veterinarian.
We have four farm cats right now. We drove back to let the cashier know the other two were okay, and she adopted them! The other two are OK!
