In celebration of National Adopt a Senior Pet Month, a 22-year-old dog—the oldest pooch his rescue group has ever taken in—has found a new, loving home in Great Britain.
According to a news release, Ty, a Staffordshire bull terrier and Dalmatian mix, came to Dogs Trust’s facility in Bridgend, Wales, in August when his family was unable to care for him. He still had plenty of life left, though, just like the majority of us in our early 20s.
Penarth residents Bruno de Brito and Lee Szopa soon—and perhaps unintentionally—found Ty. They already had two dogs: 15-year-old Staffy Fizz and 6-year-old Chihuahua mix Gizmo. Ty’s web profile was supplied to them by Szopa’s mother. She was attempting to reassure Szopa that Fizz may still be quite young.
According to the news release, de Brito stated, “That had unintended consequences.” We were eager to visit Ty and see if we could provide him with the new home he so richly deserves as soon as we read about him.
Taking Gizmo and Fizz along, they went to view their prospective new brother. Everything went perfectly, and after a short time of adjustment, they brought their new dog home, where Ty is living the good life.
“For all of us, it was love at first sight,” de Brito said.
According to de Brito, he and Fizz have grown “inseparable” and sleep next to one other. He also behaves like a playful puppy when they go for walks. However, the cheerful man with the gray beard is mature enough to understand his desires.
When Ty wants to go one way on a walk and we’re intending to go the other, we usually wind up going the other way because he can be a stubborn old chap,” de Brito stated in the press release. We love that we were able to give him a home since he makes us giggle. He is really smart.”
While getting an older dog might not seem as thrilling as getting a puppy, dogs like Ty show us that they can still be a great source of happiness and affection in our lives. (And you may not even need to be concerned about over-training them.)
Melissa Cook, assistant manager at pets Trust Bridgend, stated that while it is always wonderful when our pets find the ideal home, it is more special when the dog is older. We were ecstatic to meet Ty face-to-face with Bruno, Lee, and his new canine family, especially considering his advanced age.
